What is StreetChild Mission International?
StreetChild is an international ministry to abandoned, abused, and homeless children. It was established by Mission to the World, the global missions agency of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), in September 2000.
Why
do we work with street children?
StreetChild primarily works through national churches to fulfill the biblical mandate to provide for the physical and spiritual needs of the fatherless and the orphan. We seek to provide Christian homes for children living and growing up on the streets, who would otherwise have no opportunity to know God’s love in their lives.
Why
was StreetChild established?
There are thought to be about 150 million homeless children in the world, primarily in Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Africa. Most of these children (excluding Sub-Sahara Africa, where there are 12-15 million AIDS orphans) are not orphans, but are the victims of abandonment and abuse. StreetChild was established to fulfill the biblical mandate to care for the fatherless, the alien, and the needy, recognizing that street children are not excluded from the Great Commission.
What
are the goals of StreetChild?
God established the family and the church as the "communities" for His people, and street children are often excluded from both. For the abandoned, abused, and homeless children God entrusts to our care, our goal is to rescue them from the streets, bringing them into His family, and providing them with a hope and a future.
